Subjects I Plan to Teach

As an educator, I place emphasized importance on student collaboration not only with each other, but also with the community. I believe in order to prepare students for the next level of life after High School (whether that is higher education, trade school, work, etc.) they must have a firm grasp of how they are going to be a productive part of society. By focusing my classroom on real world problems and events, we will constantly be addressing ideas that require integration of subjects. I am passionate about creating cross curricular units to bring my students knowledge full circle. Life doesn't happen one subject at a time. Life uses all subjects simultaneously, thus we must understand their connections to understand our life.

English Language Arts

In my future English classes I aim to use relateable literature to further students understanding of the language as well as guide them to understanding the world and society in which we live. I hope to have lively discussions relating topics, themes, events, and characters from readings to topics, themes, events, and people in reality (such as global warming, war, terrorism, stereotypes, politics, media, etc.).

Mathematics

While Math has a multitude of subtopics, my passion lies with Algebra and Geometry. As math is commonly seen as challenging by many students, I strive to find real and relevant relations between the content I'm teaching and my students lives. I firmly believe helping my students find meaning in the course work greatly aids their desire to invest time in the topic.

American Sign Language

I began taking ASL in college purely because I was curious in the language. After the first class I was immediately hooked. As I continue to learn the language and culture, I seek to spread awareness and knowledge of this information. I would love to teach an ASL class or be involved in an ASL club.
